Nevada School Activities

Nevada School Activities Leave Nev. Rev. Stat. § 392.4577

Covered Employers: Employers with 50 or more employees for each working day in each of 20 or more calendar weeks in the current calendar year

Employee Eligibility: All Employees who are a parent, guardian, or custodian of a child who is enrolled in a public school.

Entitlement: Employers must provide eligible employees four (4) hours of unpaid leave per school year per child (Note: the solution is set up for 4 hours per claim. Per school year and per child will need to be managed by user) to attend parent-teacher conferences or school related activities during regular school hours, volunteer or otherwise be involved at the school in which the employee's child is enrolled during regular school hours, or attend school sponsored events. A parent, guardian or custodian must be granted leave in accordance with this section for each child of the parent, guardian or custodian who is enrolled in public school. The leave must be taken in one hour increments and must be agreed upon mutually by the employer and the employee.

Employee Notice: The employer can require written notice five (5) days before the leave is taken.

Obligation to Provide Certifications or Documents Supporting Need for Leave: Employer can require documentation that during the time of the leave, the employee attended or was otherwise involved at the school or school-related activity.

Paid: Unpaid

Reinstatement: Employers shall not discharge, demote, or otherwise take an adverse employment action against an employee who requests or takes leave under this section. It is unlawful for an employer to terminate the employment of a person who, as the parent, guardian, or custodian of a child, appears at a conference requested by an administrator of the child's school or is notified during his or her work by a school employee of an emergency regarding the child.

Notes

  • As Absence cannot determine the number of children an employee has there will only be a limit of the 4 hours per claim and
    the user will make the determination of the number of claims an employee can have

  • Additionally, while the system limits the leave to 4 hours per claim, the user will need to make the determination of per school year

  • It will be the responsibility of the user to add the increments of one hour
