Pregnancy Disability - Iowa Code § 216.6

Covered Employers: The state of Iowa or any political subdivision, board, commission,
department, institution, or school district thereof, and every other person employing employees within the state, except those who regularly employee less than four individuals.

Employee Eligibility: All employees

Entitlement: Leave of absence is for the period that the employee is disabled due to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, or for 8 weeks, whichever is less, and where leave or sufficient leave is not available under an employer's health or temporary disability insurance or sick leave plan.

Employer Notice: Not specified

Employee Notice: Employee must provide timely notice of the period of leave requested and the employer must approve any change in the period requested before the change is effective.

Obligation to Provide Certifications or Documents Supporting Need for Leave: Employer may require that an employee's disability resulting from pregnancy be verified by medical certification stating that the employee is not able to reasonably perform the job.

Paid?: Yes, to the extent that pregnancy leave must be given on the same terms and conditions as are applied to other temporary disabilities.
