Military Family and/or Spousal Leave – Conn. Gen. Stat. § 31-51 ll and 31-51 mm
Covered Employers: Employers with at least 75 employees (meaning any full- or part-time employees that appear on the employer's payroll) as of October 1 each year.
Employee Eligibility: Employees who have been employed for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,000 hours in the 12 months preceding the leave.
Entitlement: Employees who are the spouse, child, parent, or next of kin to a current member of the armed forces who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is on the temporary disability retired list for a serious injury or illness incurred in the line of duty, shall be entitled to 26 weeks of leave in a single 12-month period. This entitlement is available once per servicemember, per injury.
Spouses employed by the same employer may be limited to an aggregate of 26 weeks of leave in a 12-month period if leave is taken for this purpose.
Employer Notice: Employers must provide employees with written notice detailing the specific expectations and obligations of the employee and explaining any consequences of a failure to meet those obligations no less often than the first time in each six-month period that an employee gives notice of the need for leave (if the leave is taken during the six-month period). It is the employer's responsibility to designate leave, paid or unpaid, as qualifying, and to give notice of that designation to the employee. Once the employer has acquired knowledge that the leave is being taken for a covered reason, the employer shall promptly (within two business days absent extenuating circumstances) notify the employee that the leave is designated.)

Certification Supporting Need for Leave: Certification of health care provider may be required. In the case of certification for intermittent leave or leave on a reduced schedule, an employer may also require a statement that taking leave intermittently or on a reduced schedule is necessary.

Reinstatement: Any eligible employee who takes this leave shall be entitled to be restored to the same position they had when they started their leave, or, if that position is not available, to an equivalent position with equivalent employment benefits, pay, and other terms and conditions of employment.
